Management of childhood cancer involves knowledge of multiple specialties and skillsets. Case-based learning, originating at Harvard Business School in 1920, is a well-established educational method. A good working definition of case-based learning in medical practice is by Thistlewaite et al. "The goal of casebased learning is to prepare students for clinical practice, through the use of authentic clinical cases. Casebased learning provides students with an opportunity to see theory in practice and real cases expose them to multiple opinions and counter points."
