Essentials of Medical Physiology, 11th Edition by K Sembulingam and Prema Sembulingam is the latest edition of one of the most widely used physiology textbooks in Indian medical education. Across 11 Sections and 174 chapters it carries the whole of human physiology, from General Physiology and Blood and Body Fluids through to the Nervous System and Special Senses, written to the integrated competency-based curriculum (CBME) and in tune with the requirements set out by the World Federation for Medical Education.
The teaching approach is built for self-study. Every chapter opens with a structured outline that maps the concepts ahead, Applied Physiology sits in easy-to-reference boxes that tie each system to clinical correlation, and more than 600 purpose-designed diagrams and illustrations carry the difficult material, drawn schematically so students can reproduce them in an examination.
It works as a textbook and a revision companion at once. Essay Questions, Short Notes Questions, Updated MCQs, Viva Voce Questions, Case Scenarios and Frequently Asked Questions run throughout, so a student moves straight from learning a concept to testing recall of it, backed by a free companion review book and an online video and AI resource.
