This Record Book is designed on the sound principles of Revised Competency Based Medical Education (CBME) Curriculum. The approach is System based rather than traditional Organism based. Authors had conducted and have incorporated the results/inputs from a national survey of Microbiology faculty members across 58 medical colleges of India on ‘Strengthening clinical microbiology skill acquisition’ in designing the practical teaching sessions. Practical topics are selected from “shows how” and “does” levels of competencies, certifiable skills and AETCOM competencies from NMC’s Curriculum document. Practical exercises are designed to help the students to correlate the knowledge acquired in lectures with applied microbiological concepts in a case-based/problem-based manner so that they should be able to practice as competent doctors.Each topic is dealt under the headings of (1) Competencies covered (as per NMC curriculum document), (2) Specific Learning Objectives (SLO), (3) Case/Problem based discussion, (4) Activities and exercises in the form of DOAP and recording of observations in the book, (5) Certifiable Skill assessment and AETCOM competency assessments (in relevant topics), and (6) Feedback to students.
