Conscious of the rapidly changing world of medical knowledge driven by the information superhighway, and the need to have a synopsis that would allow easy learning enriched with illustrations, we produced this companion initially for medical students but as the writing evolved it became clear that we needed to produce a book that would be suitable for various grades of learning in the specialty. The standards of the questions are such that about 50% would be suitable for undergraduates, another 25% for those sitting the Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynecology of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and most if not all of them suitable for various postgraduate examinations worldwide. Extended matching questions are not only difficult to answer but equally difficult to set. The questions in this book have been set following the layout of the Synopsis in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Each chapter in the synopsis is associated with a set of questions. Ideally, the two should be used in tandem; however, it should be easy to use either on its own.
