The third edition of “The Textbook of Medicolegal Issues Related to Different Specialties” is before you. As a groundbreaking work in its field, it is a source of great satisfaction that the first two editions were widely successful and well received by the medical community. While many medicolegal issues are shared across specialties, each branch also faces unique challenges. This edition strives to provide a comprehensive resource, addressing a wide range of topics tailored to the needs of various specialties. However, ironically, medicine is a service which will always require ethics and human touch and cannot be governed by pure and cold science alone. A patient who considers his doctor as merely a service provider and walks into his clinic with preconceived notions of his illness and treatment options derived from websites which may not be accurate at all times is at risk of entering into an unhealthy and combative relationship. Nonetheless, writing is clear on the wall. Medical practice is changing and doctors have to adapt to changes sooner than later. This book is intended to provide the reader with much desired knowledge and wisdom to face different medicolegal situations, keep abreast of relevant laws as applicable to practicing doctors, and prevent, solve, and understand the day-to-day legal problems. The chapters from previous editions have been thoroughly updated and revised to include recent case laws. Additionally, 10 new chapters have been introduced, covering topics that were not included in earlier editions.
